THE HIPSTER IMAGE (Decca Re F.12137)
Side A: Maker Her Mine Side B: Can't Let Her Go
Great reissue of this British Mod-Jazz anthem from '65. The hipster Image only released one single on Decca, which was produced by Alan Price of The Animals. A classic but classy tune on the 60's mod scene, the original 45 is virtually impossible to find, so you better get yourself this new copy before they all run out.
Here's a cool double-sider R&B single by Texas-born Jimmy Seals & his band The Champs released in the mid-sixties on the great Challenge label. Seals went on to form the soft rock duo Seals and Croft that became quite famous in the 1970's. But check this one out folks!
Sweet little organ-fulled R&B 45 produced by Scott Seely and Buddy Merrill for GNP Crescendo in the US. Here's the French press with its nice picture sleeve. A great addition to your collection.
Superb double-sider 45 from "Sugar Billy" Garner, two very strong funk cuts essential for all DJs. Here on a loud and clear repress by BGP, you know its gonna rock your dancefloor!
Year: 2010 Vinyl / Sleeve condition: New Price: 12 euros
Les Sélections du Cinéma de Gainsbourg (Smoke Disque FR SDR-001)
Side A: 1. Requiem Pour Un Con 2. Requiem Bonus Beats 3. Psychasténie 4. Cadavres en Série Side B: 1. No No, Yes Yes 2. La Horse 3. La Horse Bonus Beats 4. L'Alouette
Essential bootleg of rare Serge Gainsbourg instrumental tracks and edits released on this long out-of-print 12 inch. Super loud press!
Side A: 1. Louie Louie 2. Rock Rock Rock Side B: 1. Have Love Will Travel 2. The Mess Around
First reissue of the cult original compositions by Mr Berry, this EP was released in the 70's. In case some of you didn't know, this is the man who wrote "Louie Louie" and "Have Love Will Travel", later covered by countless bands including The Sonics and The Black Keys. Comes in its limited edition pale blue picture sleeve numbered #263 out of 500. Very rare issue.
Excellent edit by French artist Pilooski of the Dee Edwards northern anthem, recently used (and re-released) by Adidas for the TV. Very useful 12 inch for the DJs.
Great sample compilation of the infamous Pompeii label from Dallas including the Grammy Award Nominee instrumental "Thinking Black" by Ike Turner. Other artists include Tina Turner, Les Watson, Fontella Bass, Leroy Horne, Roger Collins and The Project.
Excellent LP by unknown UK outfit The Underground. Most tracks here are covers of well-known soul classics, but the production here is massive ! Surely the work of KPM studio men. My faves here are "Respect" and the only composition "Beat Party", listen to both !
Great 45 by Ray with killer dancer "The Train" on A side, I just love the backing vocals by Raelettes and the huge bass sound on that track. Brilliant work and guaranteed floor-filler!
Dance and Mood Music Volume 4 - Paul Piot et Son Grand Orchestre (Vadim Music VAD022LP)
Taken from the mythical Dance and Mood Music series by English library music label Chappell, this record from French composer Paul Piot is packed full with typically sixties grooves, totally pop atmospheres, and wonderful mod sounds.
The Cecil Holmes Soulful Sounds - The Black Motion Picture Experience (Buddah BDS5129)
You might be tempted to pass up on this one because of the NASTY cover. Don't make that mistake. Buy this album. It's an instrumental reworking of all the major pre-1974 black action themes, and features the likes of Randy Brecker in a killer studio band. The album contains one of the few versions of the 'Slaughter' theme committed to vinyl.
Side A:Sha-La-La-La-Lee / Grow Your Own Side B: It's Too Late / I've Got Mine
Absolutely mindbending and rare 1st French EP by UK Mod fathers The Small Faces. My preferences go for the organ frenzy of "Grow Your Own" and the soulful gem "I've Got Mine", both dancefloor burners. Not to be missed!
Side A: Concerto Grosso Pour Les New Trolls (Adagio) Side B: Concerto Grosso Pour Les New Trolls (Allegro)
Great prog rock mixed with classical music from this Italian band famous for its many line-up changes. Produced by Luis Bacalov and released on the very cult Pierre Cardin label, this has got to be the quintessence of their sound.
Side A: Egyptian Reggae Side B: Roller Coaster By The Sea
Classic instrumental by punk rocker Jonathan Richman released in 1977. An instro version of Earl Zero's "None Shall Escape the Judgement", re-released by Jazzman Gerald on his Pow Wow compilation. Sooo nice on 45!
THE LAURIE JOHNSON ORCHESTRA / CHAPEAU MELON ET BOTTES DE CUIR OST (Emi)
Side A: The New Avengers Theme Side B: L'Homme Au Chapeau Melon
This one's a corker of a 45, A side kicks off with an tremendous funk version of the theme backed with slashing wah wah, pounding bass and killer drums, the orchestra is of course in top form. B side's continues with John Steed talking about the famous series, in French, with short but lethal interceded funk pieces. Total KPM library sound, only released in France!
Rare salsa/boogaloo 7' by explosive duo Tony Rojas and Tito Ramos, both tracks come from the "Simbolos Sexuales" LP, produced by top man George Goldner.
Great split 12" with two classic banging numbers, A side is killer afro-psych-funk by the Bunch and B side track originated drum&bass with its many-times sampled breaks, a great item on 12!
All-time killer northern soul and number one hit by late Chicago singer Edwin Starr, "War" is just unmissable, one of my faves. The flip is also great material, a classic but must-have single!
Side A: I Learned It All The Hard Way Side B: Part-Time Love
Strong soul by Macon-born sing/songwriter Howard Tate, a cool blues-soul alternative to the dancefloor, "Part-Time Love" is perfec as a finishing track.
Rare French PS by late UK singer/choreographer Vic Upshaw. "Dance the Popcorn" is the
best and rarest output by Upshaw and is produced by Mickey Baker. Both tracks are similar, probably the same one with different edits and vocals, the cleanest copy I've seen in years.
Favourite singer/performer Jacques Brel is here in great form on his last album, so many good tracks including the killer latin breakbeat/funk intro of Les F... (J. Donato cover).
Side A: Nothing Takes The Place Of You Side B: Shimmy
Although the A side reached N°5 in the US R&B charts, the flip side has our attention here: a great minimalist organ blower from the swamps of Louisiana, very simple, straight-forward but sooo efficient 45. Get it!
